Lo Chan Peng is a contemporary artist born in 1983 in Taiwan, known for his hyper-realistic paintings that delve into themes of identity, culture, and the human experience. His artistic journey has garnered significant recognition, culminating in the prestigious Grand Prize at the 2023 Beautiful Bizarre Art Prize, which highlights his exceptional talent and unique perspective.
Reflecting on his inspiration, Lo shares, “As I have grown, my spiritual awakening has greatly influenced my art. Although painting is a material practice, I believe that through physical materials, I am expressing something intangible—something that cannot be fully articulated through language. For me, the most rewarding aspect is that my work fosters spiritual growth in others.”
In 2024, Lo Chan Peng achieved a significant milestone by obtaining the U.S. first preference EB1A Green Card, designated for individuals with extraordinary abilities. This recognition not only underscores his artistic prowess but also opens new avenues for his work in the international art scene.
Lo’s art often reflects a deep exploration of personal and collective narratives, inviting viewers to engage with the complexities of modern life. He notes, “We are living in a chaotic era where new developments emerge every month, leaving people anxious and lost. However, I hope we can view the current situation from a higher perspective. In the long run, I believe painting will become more important than ever before. Yet, people have not realized this because they are overwhelmed by the constant influx of new things.”
His meticulous attention to detail and ability to evoke emotion through his work have established him as a prominent figure in contemporary art. His artworks primarily focus on portraits and span a variety of media, including oil paintings and ink. He often explores profound themes such as time, history, and the boundary between life and death, transforming abstract concepts into visible elements through representational and delicate portraiture.
Since 2011, Lo has participated in various large-scale international art exchange programs as a resident artist, including those in Berlin, Germany, and the El Segundo Museum of Arts in Los Angeles. His extensive exhibition history includes major shows such as “Secret Longings” at Corey Helford Gallery in Los Angeles and “One World” in Tokyo, Japan. His works are collected by prominent institutions, including the Hoki Museum in Japan and the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts.
Looking ahead, Lo Chan Peng has an exciting lineup of upcoming exhibitions that promise to showcase his evolving artistry: April 2025: “Dreamland Awaits” at Corey Helford Gallery, LA, US, curated by Beautiful Bizarre Magazine. June 2025: Solo Exhibition at SR Gallery, Tokyo, Japan. July 2025: Exhibition at Artglorieux Gallery, Tokyo, Japan, curated by Gallery Sumire. September 2025: Exhibition at Gaudium Space, Naples, Italy.
