Traffic Gallery is excited to present “Perseidi,” the first solo exhibition of the multifaceted artist Lorenza Boisi, who hails from Milan. This exhibition showcases a series of medium to large-sized paintings that invite viewers on a journey through Greek mythology, Celtic folklore, and Jungian dream worlds, while simultaneously reflecting on the present and future through the lens of desire.
The title “Perseidi,” referring to the meteor shower associated with the night of San Lorenzo (the artist’s name day), symbolizes the act of wishing upon falling stars. Boisi’s work is deeply influenced by the Fauvism and Impressionism of the French art movements, as well as German Expressionism and the artistic explorations of the 1980s and Art Brut.
Boisi’s paintings create a vivid, realistic imagery where color dominates and transforms perception, leading to seemingly informal compositions. The artist explores the concept of desire through her use of color, which ignites the contours of her figures, animating and capturing them in a vibrant interplay of reality and imagination. The exhibition’s narrative is enriched by references to mythological themes, such as the friendship between Eurialo and Niso, and the enchanting tales of the Kelpie, malevolent spirits in the form of horses.

In her works, Boisi intertwines personal and collective imagery, drawing from her extensive literary knowledge and the archetypal structures outlined by Vladimir Propp. This connection to literature enhances the depth of her paintings, where each piece serves as a dialogue between the past and the present, the mythical and the real.
In her own words, Boisi reflects on the significance of her birthday in August, a month associated with introspection and the opportunity to express desires. She views her exhibition as a collection of images that resonate with the collective imagination, challenging the notion of originality and emphasizing the shared human experience of longing and aspiration.
Lorenza Boisi has gained recognition both nationally and internationally, with recent accolades including her participation as a finalist in the Osvaldo Licini Prize and the Termoli Prize. Her works have been acquired by prestigious institutions, including the CRT Foundation and the Ministry of Culture, further solidifying her place in the contemporary art scene.
“Perseidi” promises to be a captivating exploration of desire, myth, and the human experience through the lens of Lorenza Boisi’s vibrant and evocative paintings. Visitors to Traffic Gallery will not only witness a remarkable artistic journey but also engage with the deeper narratives that shape our understanding of art and its connection to our desires and dreams.
