Magdalena Korpas is a dynamic film and stage actress whose artistic journey spans across Europe and beyond. Born in Gdansk, Poland, she relocated to Paris at the age of 15, where she honed her acting skills at prestigious institutions such as the Studio Pygmalion School and Compagnie Le Vélo Volé, led by François Ha Van. Her classical training has equipped her to perform in feature films, short films, TV shows, commercials, and theatrical productions, with her work being showcased at renowned venues including the Cannes Film Festival.
In addition to her acting career, Korpas is also an accomplished filmmaker and visual artist. In 2012, she co-directed and starred in the film “Soixante-dix,” which premiered at Cannes. Her film “Jalousie” was selected for the LGBT Film Festival in Warsaw in 2016, and she has received numerous accolades for her photography, including a First Prize at the Polish Talent Support Photography Contest in 2018.
Korpas possesses a diverse academic background, holding a Master’s degree in Theater from Sorbonne University, a BA in Philosophy from the Polish Institute of Philosophy in Paris, and a BA in Photography from YMCA Photography School in Gdynia. Her insatiable curiosity has led her to pursue studies in psychology at the University Paris Descartes.
Fluent in Polish, French, and English, Korpas is truly an international artist. Her latest project, the film “Maguy,” directed by Francesco Zarzana, delves into a poignant story inspired by real events. The film portrays the life of a young girl named Maguy, who was unjustly confined to a correctional facility in France during the late 1940s. The narrative unfolds her emotional journey as she forms a touching relationship with Madame Geneviève, the director of the institution.
The film is set to be shot in Formigine, Italy, on November 4 and 5, 2023, using the historic Castello as a natural backdrop. Zarzana discovered the story of Maguy while exploring the region and was captivated by the castle’s history as a correctional center for troubled girls. The film aims to raise awareness about the injustices faced by individuals like Maguy, whose tragic fate ultimately contributed to the abolishment of such institutions in France.
Magdalena Korpas takes on the titular role of Maguy, alongside her co-star Manon Elezaar, who portrays Madame Geneviève. The cast also includes Katia Greco as Maguy’s aunt, bringing together a talented ensemble for this evocative story. Following two weeks of filming in Bron, near Lyon, the production will continue in Cadillac sur Garonne and is slated for completion by late November 2023, with a release expected in the spring of 2025.
The opportunity for local residents to participate in the film as extras adds an interactive element to the production, inviting people to dress in 1950s attire and join in on the experience.
As Magdalena Korpas continues to captivate audiences with her artistry, “Maguy” promises to be a powerful exploration of resilience and the human spirit, shedding light on a significant and often overlooked chapter of history.
