Esteban Luis Bustos Andrade, a 36-year-old self-taught creative from Viña del Mar, Chile, has combined multiple influences throughout his career, merging his love for history and indigenous culture with his passion for design. From the very beginning of his journey in the world of visual art and graphic design, his path has been intimately tied to the exploration and celebration of the roots of the Selk’nam people, legendary hunters from Tierra del Fuego who remain alive in collective memory.
Esteban’s career began somewhat casually. His interest in design emerged during the era of Fotolog, where he dedicated himself to creating images from scratch. He studied advertising, which allowed him to refine his skills, but it was his yearning for a more meaningful purpose that led him to explore visual art more deeply. “I needed something that fulfilled me,” he confesses, which drove him to develop new editing techniques and focus on his own roots and those of indigenous peoples.
His connection with Selk’nam culture began when he created a basic 3D video, a piece that sparked his curiosity and led him to investigate more about their rituals and way of life. This discovery was crucial and marked the beginning of an artistic journey that continues to evolve.
