AlphaZTL Compagnia d’Arte Dinamica is redefining the boundaries of dance by focusing on its potential to drive social change. Known for its dedication to fostering inclusivity, the company is currently emphasizing the transformative power of dance within prisons, with their latest production, “Orme”, standing as a testament to this mission.
Debuting recently at the Casa Circondariale di Brindisi, Orme is a poignant collaboration between professional dancers and incarcerated individuals, brought to life under the direction and choreography of Vito Alfarano. The production explores the concept of life events that leave indelible marks—both collective and personal. From historical milestones like the moon landing and women’s right to vote, to deeply personal memories, the performance invites audiences to reflect on the shared human experience of trauma, resilience, and hope.
Orme is not just a performance—it is the culmination of a workshop held inside the Brindisi prison, led by Alfarano himself. The project aims to provide incarcerated individuals with a professional pathway while fostering their reintegration into society. By engaging them in a creative process alongside the company’s professional dancers, Orme creates a unique space for dialogue, expression, and growth.
The show’s success has already resonated beyond Brindisi. Following its debut, it was recently performed at the Teatro dell’Arca in Genoa, where it was met with enthusiasm and critical acclaim.
Through intricate choreography, evocative music, and striking costumes designed by Francesca De Giorgio, Orme weaves stories that transcend the walls of confinement. The performance features music by various artists as well as original compositions by Paco Maddalena, blending genres and emotions to create an immersive auditory experience.
The cast includes both professional dancers—Francesco Biasi, Doriana Epicoco, Marianoel Gioia, Antonio Scelsi, Christian Testini, and Aurora Zammillo—and the incarcerated participants, who bring raw emotion and authenticity to the stage. Together, they create a collective journey through events that have shaped our world and personal lives, from the global pandemic to acts of terror, from moments of joy to profound loss.
Orme will next be performed at the Teatro dell’Arca in Genoa on December 13, 2024, at 8:30 PM. Tickets are available for purchase with prices ranging from €8 to €15, and reservations are mandatory due to security protocols.
AlphaZTL, under the artistic direction of Vito Alfarano, has made a name for itself by creating socially impactful performances. The company’s projects focus on using art as a medium for empowerment and inclusion, particularly within marginalized communities.
With Orme, AlphaZTL continues to exemplify how dance can serve as a powerful tool for storytelling, healing, and bridging societal divides. By integrating professional artistry with the lived experiences of incarcerated individuals, the company offers a poignant reminder of art’s capacity to connect and transform.
