As 2024 draws to a close, renowned artist Joris Kuipers reflects on a year marked by vibrant creativity, inspiring exhibitions, and groundbreaking projects. Known for his ability to transform chaos into lyrical beauty, Kuipers has brought his distinctive style to new heights this year with captivating installations and innovative artworks.
A Standout Showcase at the Independent Hotel Show
In October, Kuipers participated in the Independent Hotel Show in London, where his work took center stage. He unveiled the latest autumn-inspired version of BERM, a striking wall sculpture that captures the essence of seasonal transformation. The event also featured the green turquoise version of BERM, which graced the Member Suite curated by London-based design studio Fibi Interiors, adding a touch of elegance and artistic flair.
At Independent Hotel Show London, Kuipers presents a collection of artworks linked by a floral theme. At the heart of his presentation is a sculptural statement piece for entrances and lobbies. This will be followed by 2D artworks for hotel corridors and rooms. And he will show will gift (shop) items in the same line as the artworks.
Introducing the Completed Pond Series
This year also saw the debut of Kuipers’ COMPLETED POND series, a trio of mesmerizing artworks inspired by the graceful movements of underwater plants in steaming water. Photographed with dramatic lighting, the sculptures evoke the illusionistic quality of trompe l’oeil paintings, creating a visual experience that feels three-dimensional yet painterly. The artworks, printed on velvet, introduce a tactile dimension to their vibrant colors and shapes. They are available in various diameters—80 cm, 100 cm, and 120 cm—offering versatility for collectors and admirers alike.
Pushing Boundaries with New Installations
Kuipers is currently working on a remarkable project for a Canadian luxury fashion brand’s store in Amsterdam. For the first time, his signature BERM wall sculptures will be reimagined as suspended installations, adding a dynamic, floating quality to his work. The project, set for completion in spring 2025, promises to push the boundaries of his artistic practice and transform the space into an immersive experience.
Upcoming Exhibition: ART(s)GALLERY Simone Jansen
Looking ahead to early 2025, Kuipers will showcase a selection of smaller works at ART(s)GALLERY Simone Jansen, part of the group exhibition THERESI_ART 13 on February 1, 2, and 8. This intimate display will allow audiences to engage with the finer details of his art, from intricate hand-drawn patterns to the vivid, harmonious palettes that define his style.
